Happy Mandela Day! But I have so many many questions to the loyals of this day. I am not too expectant of answers but I expect you to read.

Of all the African heroes and heroines why him only? I used the terms heroes and heroines for convenience’s sake. Like my idol Dambudzo Marechera I believe in the ‘Fuck your heroes’ concept.
Who made sure there is a day as this and why? I think it’s a recognised day on the United Nations calendar. School me if I am wrong!
I’m intrigued about the subversive Mandela who went to prison versus the gentleman that was cooked by thirty years of confinement. The complete turn around is amusing. Where I come from and my biased prison study prison system hardens criminals. But Mandela and his other golden boy turned bad boy Robert Mugabe came out of it as gentleman with degrees from recognised tertiary institutions from the governments which made them superintendents of the newly independent governments.
Any better sexy prison tale than this?
Now I’m thinking as the day unfolds are the grievances of that day when brave children were butchered like terrorists in Soweto solved as we celebrate this icon’s day?
I know owning nothing and struggles are breeding grounds for love, but take sometime to think of the impact of love if we had access to the means of production. I am thinking it could be more beneficial to everyone including those who are not beneficiaries of the Madela Foundations if we rethink the motives and goals of the subversive Mandela again
This unpopular opinion is inspired by a man’s remark in a certain Harare bookshop who claimed ‘only a coward leaves a woman like Winnie’.
My world stopped on hearing that and I now have a dangerous theory on the popular marriage to Machel’s wife.
Wow you don’t sound like a Mandela fan 😂😂

I think I am influenced by the kind of books I read. They focus more on ‘unnewsworthy’ when the news guys are in search of the grand people. I like the unrecorded stories even of the grand people. I love the forgotten heroes. In this instance of South Africa I would go for Oliver Tambo, Steve Biko, Chris Hani and Winnie Mandela to corroborate or interrogate the global icon.

Ohhh I can imagine. So what if it’s a popular influential figure that actually had no perks?

Hopefully they will not fall on me and leave me a trapped mouse. It’s no good manners not to respect those with big names

“Only a coward leaves a wife like Winnie”. Intriguing I still have questions about this. Why did he leave her? After sll they went through and why is he the most decorated hero in Africa. Thanks advocate for a thought provoking post

Mandela is a good scapegoat for South Africans. He ruled for one term which is 4 years but he somehow should’ve rectified a 100 years of exploitation? Smh he did his part the problem is everyone else didn’t follow up with action after him

That case is understood though I still have questions around his reverence, and the man who came out of prison, in gentleman’s jacket.

Hahaha I thought you would help. I think I should commit more to Apartheid studies. That way it will be possible to study Mandela alongside Hani, Tambo, Biko (one man who has a clause after him in the constitution of South Affrica ‘the Biko Clause’, Winnie Mandela and many more

Mandela was very imperfect, in the past I have blamed the CIA for his arrest but his tactics called for his capture. He was an amateur throughout, he didn’t complete training in Ethiopia. I don’t want to criticize his deal with De Clark it was the best anyone would have got
